So far I’ve had 2 babies and I’ve never purchased maternity clothes! During both my pregnancies, I wore non-maternity clothes, aka: regular clothes. I could never get myself to spend $70+ on pants and shirts (what’s up with all the floral prints😑??) that I’d only get to wear for a couple of months. The only maternity pieces I purchased were nursing bras and nursing tanks which are essentials for breastfeeding and pumping moms.
I did gain around 25lbs during each pregnancy but I was still able to wear the same clothes I’ve always worn and they pretty much fit me the same. During the summer months, I wore spandex skirts, cotton bodycon and short jersey dresses. I liked being able to dress as I normally would but still be comfortable all day. When I wasn’t wearing skirts and dresses, I lived in spandex pants.
If you’re like me and would prefer not to drop crazy amounts of $$ for a nice outfit you’ll only get to wear for a short while, check out this list of 11 super stylish and affordable non-maternity dresses that you can wear even after you have your baby!
11 Super Stylish And Affordable Non-Maternity Dresses You Can Wear During And After Pregnancy
This short-sleeve split maxi dress is a fantastic non-maternity dress piece because although it has ample space for your baby bump to fill, it is still clingy enough that it can hold its shape and not look tent-like like some other maxi dresses. The splits on the side are very flattering and allows for a peekaboo effect on the leg when you walk. This dress can either be dressed up or dressed down effortlessly. It’s the perfect beach dress because it is loose enough that you can wear your gorgeous maternity swimsuit underneath without the dress looking lumpy. If you’re under 5’5-5’6, the dress may need to be hemmed so that it doesn’t drag. But otherwise, this maxi dress is comfy and a fabulous options for pregnant and non-pregnant moms alike.
This mini bodycon dress is perfect to rock especially during your summer pregnancy. It is quite stretchy so depending on how you’re carrying your pregnancy, you may be able to get away with getting the same size (or sizing down) you wore before pregnancy and still be able to wear it after you give birth. It has ruching on the sides and in the middle area which beautiful accentuates a baby bump. The ruching is also great postpartum as it hides anything you don’t really want highlighted. This bodycon dress is short enough that you can bare your legs but long enough that it doesn’t ride up which is important if you’re rocking a baby bump.
This swing midi dress with pockets is beautiful! The sweetheart neckline is super sexy and flattering and the split at the waist can either be great at accentuating your baby bump, or elongating your waistline after you give birth. The buttons on this dress aren’t real (except for the yellow dress according to the reviews), but still give this dress a classic and playful look, without the struggle of having to button it up. It is stretchy and the skirt part of the dress is a little pleated and loose so there is quite a bit of room for your belly to grow into during pregnancy. I personally think that this dress would be perfect to wear during a summer baby shower. It’s a fantastic non-maternity dress to add to your wardrobe!
This gorgeous long maxi cami dress is quite similar to the first one except it has spaghetti straps. It’s a super casual non-maternity dress that is easy to dress up or down. After pregnancy, this dress is meant to have a more ample fit. However, the spandex in the fabric of the dress makes for a figure-hugging fit, which is perfect during pregnancy because it accentuates a pregnant belly.
This strappy split dress is super stylish. The slits on the side are quite sexy and and length to your legs, and the scalloped edge of the skirt part make this dress special. It looks like a 2-piece but it’s not. Underneath the top and is a drawstring waistband. The dress can be tightened at the waist but it cannot be loosened. This non-maternity piece is especially great to wear during early pregnancy when your belly doesn’t need much room. Because of the stiffer fabric, if you’re bump is bigger you may need to go up a size or 2. It’s a super light and airy, perfect for a summer pregnancy!
This strappy ruffle midi dress is super fun, feminine, and playful! The top part of the dress is stretchy but still very form-fitting. This is ideal both during and after pregnancy because it gives your bust ample room to grow without feeling uncomfortable. The belt at the waist can do a great job at both accentuating a growing baby bump, and accentuating and slimming the waist after pregnancy. The skirt part of the dress is very flowy and falls beautiful over a growing bump. After pregnancy the soft pleats in the skirt make it easy to hide anything you may not want showing in the belly area. I love this dress’ feminine and almost Sex And The City Jessica Parker-esque vibe.
This off the shoulder ruffle dress is quite similar to dress #1 and #4 is terms of look, feel and fabric, but it’s still unique and beautiful in its own right. The material is very soft and comfortable. It’s a gorgeous piece to wear both during and after pregnancy. The stretchy waistband gives your belly lots of room to grow into, and the ruching in the stomach area is great for concealing any bits you may prefer to have hidden during postpartum. The ruffle portion up-top can either be worn up or down (2 looks in 1!) and the elastic at the shoulders make this dress a fantastic option especially if you plan on breastfeeding. The slits on the side are also very flattering and elongate the legs. This elegant and feminine piece would also be great for a summer maternity photoshoot.
I don’t know about you but I love a dress that accentuates my curves. This off the shoulder body bodycon dress does just that and more! This dress would be beautiful for a baby shower! The ruffles at the top give the illusion of a larger and perkier bust (which is great if you’ve got a smaller chest like me), and the skirt part of the dress smooths out and elongates your lower half. The off the shoulder design of this dress does make it an ideal pick for breastfeeding moms. The fabric of this dress is super soft and stretchy, making this non-maternity dress ideal to wear both during and after pregnancy. However, keep in mind that although this dress is stretchy, the reviews do recommend going up a size or 2 especially if you are heavily pregnant.
This Bohemian inspired maxi dress is stunning. If you love bold colors and prints, this dress is for you. It’s super lightweight and airy, making it perfect to wear during hot summer months. It features a super feminine and sexy deep v-neckline which is very flattering (and perfect for nursing a hungry baby!), and an open back. This maxi dress is hot! It also has an elastic waist which can be tightened to accentuate your baby bump and even to accentuate and define your waistline after giving birth. This dress is definitely a showstopper!
Here’s another beautiful maxi dress with a trendy bold print. This dress is super soft and comfortable which is very important especially during pregnancy (just look at its reviews!). It features a scalloped hemline both and the front and back, and high slits on each side. This dress is looser but the fabric is also stretchy, so a growing bump could grow into it effortlessly, while still maintaining a flattering appearance on the body. Afterbirth, the looser fit of this dress and the v-neckline makes it easy to breastfeed.
I love this piece! This one is an off the shoulder, 4-tiered midi-length dress that is super stylish and easy to wear both during and after pregnancy. Just look at the pictures in the review, this dress is beautiful and very elegant. It is also very flattering even on shorter women, which is quite surprising due to its large layers. The waistband is stretchy and gives your belly lots of room to grow during pregnancy, as is the band around the shoulders which makes this dress practical for breastfeeding in public. This is another non-maternity dress that is casual, but that can also easily be dressed up.
