Hey mamas! Today I’ll be sharing with you this quick, easy, and more importantly DELICIOUS pregnancy smoothie recipe! Are you in your third trimester?
Girl, you better sit back, relax, and sip on this smoothie before the big day comes! I don’t know about you but my appetite would always come back with a vengeance during my 3rd trimester.
Of course I always tried to eat healthy but it was tough! I was always craving ginger ale, fried beignets, and chocolate (thought this would go away after pregnancy but here I am munching away on some dark chocolate!). 😅
What did you/are you craving?
The 3rd trimester is definitely a time where you want to be conscious of what you are eating not only because childbirth and postpartum are approching, but because this is the time where you will gain most of your “baby weight”.
You should definitely enjoy yourself and eat the foods you like, but also remember to keep it healthy and to give your body what it needs!
During your final trimester of pregnancy, you will want to be conscious of what you are eating in order to prepare your body for a quick and easy labor.
Eating wholesome diet is a great way to prep you body for labor and for postpartum. This antioxidant-rich and nutrient-dense pregnancy smoothie is perfect for you mamas nearing your due date.
It contains easy to find ingredients that come together to make a tasty smoothie that you will love. ❤
Full of fiber and vitamin C, low in fat, and more importantly full of antioxidants. Not only do they benefit baby while in utero, they (thanks to the antioxidants) also promote healing for mom once baby is born.
This bright yellow tropical fruit is so tasty. I love eating mango chunks when they are still a little cold. This fruit is high in fiber, vitamin C, and it is known to alkalize the entire body, and to improve digestion which tends to be pretty slugging for expecting mamas!
I know you’ve heard a lot about this fruit. Believe the hype, dates are da bomb ok?! I’d like to think that God made this sweet superfood just for mamas.
He knew the kind of stuff we’d have to endure during pregnancy, childbirth, & motherhood (I recently made it out of the 2 babies under 2 zone…I can’t even believe I did it😂!). So of course he came through with this yummy fruit to sweeten it up a little!
Did you know that dates have been linked to quicker cervical dilation of the cervix, and shorter labor? According to this study, eating 6 dates per day in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy also contributed to more moms going into labor spontaneously.
This study also found that eating dates in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy was effective in reducing the need of oxytocin for labor acceleration.
🙌 Yup, they’re that amazing.
I love dates. My entire household loves dates. We eat them right out of the bag. I also use dates to make “syrup” for waffles & pancakes, and I also use it to sweeten smoothies!
I suggest getting some good quality organic dates that aren’t processed with a bunch of junk. I get the Terra Delyssa brand from Costco. If you can’t get them from there, another comparable brand is Wild & Raw and you can purchase them online.
Like the Terra Delyssa Dates, Wild & Raw dates are: Organic, kosher, non-GMO, gluten-free, sun-dried, pitted, unsulfured, with no added sugar and preservatives.
Apparently, Mayan warriors used to eat chia seeds to given the strength and endurance! Childbirth is no joke (you may even let out some warrior cries..just saying!) and you will need all the strength you can get!
If you’re planning on breastfeeding, consider adding this superfood to your diet. Did you know the the Mayan word for “strength” is Chia? These tiny but mighty seeds are nutrient-dense and full of body-loving properties.
They’re an excellent source of plant based Omega 3 fatty acids (which are crucial during this stage for your baby’s brain, immune & nervous system development), and fiber.
Fiber will help keep your bowels moving so that you aren’t backed up. So if you’re that mama who is totally freaking out about pooping while you are pushing during childbirth, you need some chia seeds in your life..like yesterday!
Who doesn’t like pineapples? This juicy fruit is full of antioxidants, vitamin C which provides immune system support, and it is also know to have anti-inflammatory thank to an enzyme called Bromelain! It’s perfect for mamas dealing with those pesky 3rd trimester-induced aches…especially the ones in your pelvis…and lower back 😭
I’m not a huge fan of eating bananas but I love adding them to smoothies. They add an extra dose of creaminess and sweetness!
They are chock-full of vitamins including and not limited to, folic acid, potassium, vitamin B6, fiber (amen to not pooping during labor!), and calcium (another amen for strong teeth and nails..which can get brittle during pregnancy).
They’re also great during the 3rd trimester when you are more prone to suffer from leg cramps. As soon as you feel yourself cramping up, peel a banana and enjoy!
If you don’t have almond milk or any other type of milk, I suppose you can use water or even coconut water…but you’ll definitely want to use bananas for a creamier smoothie.
Berry delicious superfood pregnancy smoothie
This recipe makes around 6 cups of smoothie
– 1 cup of frozen organic mango
– 1/3 cup of frozen pineapple
– 1/2 cup of fresh organic banana
– 3 tbsp. organic chia seeds
– 2 1/2 cups of Almond Fresh vanilla almond milk (personal preference…but you can use whatever you have on hand)
– 1 cup frozen organic berries
– 6 organic dates
– *Organic oatmeal (optional but adds more fiber and heartiness to smoothie)
Place ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
Kick your feet up, relax, and enjoy your pregnancy smoothie! 😎
I still have this pregnancy smoothie a couple of times a week. Jason and the kids also enjoy it! It’s delicious and it’s good for you.
Of course, you can have this smoothie at any time during your pregnancy but it’s ingredients are just perfect for a mama who is about to give birth!
